We will be at Santa Rita Park with care packages for the homeless. Gospel Rescue Mission Tucson outlines how to make these care packages :
Step 1: Get a Large Ziploc Bag
Step 2: Place the following items inside
- Water bottle
- Granola bar(s)
- Disinfectant Wipes
- GRM Invite Card
- Bus Pass (free since covid)
We will meet at Santa Rita Park with some people from different congregations around Tucson to sing, pray, and give out these packages to the homeless.
A Little Background on Why we Do this
Giving to the poor is not something we do just because it feels good, but we are commanded in the Scriptures to care about the poor. Isaiah 58 tells us about “true fasting” and besides loosing the chains of injustice it also speaks about sharing our food with the poor and providing shelter for the poor wanderer:
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen….Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness[a] will go before you,
and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.” ( Isaiah 58:6-8, NIV)
So as a part of our community outreach branch, we will be doing the above stated for the love of God, and to fulfill Scriptures.
